Louis Chakkalakal

What did you do before you joined SIB?

I am a German national and completed my Bachelor Studies in Business Management & Leadership from Heilbronn University (Germany) and got my MBA from the leading German Business School, European School of Business - Reutlingen University.

How did you decide to join SIB's full time investment banking & equity research course?

I had three individual reasons for joining the school. First of all, I aimed to learn everything about Investment Banking technicals and in addition to this to concretely apply and practice the subjects within a training. Secondly, I intended to gain practical knowledge about different sectors, industry drivers and market particularities in India and other parts of the world. Thirdly, I knew about the extensive network and relevant contacts of the tutors including a distinguished reputation of the institute and about the quality of its graduates. Thus, depending on my own merit, I had the aspiration to get the best help possible to immediately start my career.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

All the expectations that I had before joining the course were definitely met. The intensive training made me adept in all relevant disciplines such as accounting, creation of profiles & comparables, DCF valuation, M&A considerations etc. I gained deep insights about sector peculiarities and I was ideally prepared for challenging finance interviews. I am now without any doubt ready to succeed in this highly competitive field of Investment Banking with one of the World’s most reputable banks.

What was the best part of training at SIB?

Apart from the high expectations that I had before, the school could even exceed these expectations by far. The experienced and dynamic lecturer team could continuously spark me and keep up a high level of excitement and motivation throughout the course. We were encouraged to question independently and to think out of the box. The tutors clearly put an emphasis on general knowledge, macro-economic factors and recent occurrences. Overall I would say: the approach of the school represents and conveys lived street smartness.

Manan Vora

What did you do before you joined SIB?

I completed my Graduation(B.com) from H.R. College along with C.F.A from ICFAI University. I was working with a brokerage company as a Wealth Manager for couple of years before I decided to join SIB.

How did you decide to join SIB's full time investment banking & equity research course?

As a professional, I always dreamt to become an Investment Banker, but never got much opportunities due lack of working experience in the industry. I heard about SIB through a friend, who strongly recommended me to join it. That’s when I thought of finding out what actually SIB offers in terms of practical training, placement assistance & was very impressed by its faculty, its course content & its placement records. Hence I decided to join SIB.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

Absolutely! no doubt. The quality of practical experience that I received during the course probably I wouldn’t have got even through any other degree course & the no. of opportunities that I got to work as an investment banker, I would have never got otherwise.

What was the best part of training at SIB?

The best part about the training, apart from the fantastic curriculum, is that there are group discussions based on current affairs which helped me remain updated and equipped me to excel in the interviews with the investment banks. Also the course focuses on improving Excel & Powerpoint skills along with basic accounting concepts throughout the duration of the course.

Pulkit Madan

What did you do before you joined SIB?

Before joining SIB, I had done BMS from Mumbai and MBA from LaTrobe University, Melbourne, Australia. I had also worked in Credit for 1.5 years in Melbourne.

How did you decide to join SIB's full time investment banking course?

I always wanted to get into Investment Banking and SIB is the best platform I could get (considering I didn’t have any relevant work experience). Also a friend who was already placed in a Global Bank through SIB was another inspiration for me.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

Definitely!! Today I have a job that I always wanted and that too with a MNC bank. This break will definitely prove to be very beneficial for my career. Also, apart from the placement part of it, the kind of practical knowledge I got through this course was phenominal.

What was the best part of training at SIB?

I think the best part of the training is its practical approach because we are actually asked to work on LIVE companies and I don’t think any Masters’ Degree actually provides us with such in-depth knowledge of Investment Banking. Secondly, the faculty at SIB is highly qualified and each one of them makes an extra effort to ensure we understand each and every aspect of the course. At the completion of the course, I know almost everything taught to us. They leave no stone unturned.

Aakash Manghani

What did you do before you joined SIB?

I was working as a Software Engineer with Amdocs (India), prior to that I had completed my BE in IT from SPCE, Mumbai in 2008.

How did you decide to join SIB's full time investment banking course?

I always wanted a break into mainstream finance and its very difficult for an Engineer to break into Investment Banking or Equity Research. After my very first interaction with the SIB team, I was convinced that this is the opportunity that I was waiting for. The faculty is extremely good, course content looked great and to top it all, SIB  helped me with excellent placement prospects.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

Probably one of the best decisions I've taken so far. It was only through SIB that I was able to get a break into Equity Research.

What was the best part of training at SIB?

The training is very hands on, the course content is excellent, very much in line with what’s required on the job, and is taught exceptionally well.

Dhiren Kataria

Before joining SIB I was working as a Loan Portfolio Analyst in a financial service firm in Chicago. I got back to India in October with intention of switching to investment banking arena as there were better opportunities in India compared to US.

How did you decide to join SIB's full time investment banking course?

As I chose investment banking as my career option, I wanted to enhance my skill set and learn financial modeling before I start interviewing with IB firms. I went through SIB's course module which detailed the entire 10 week process on developing a candidate's skill set on all the aspects of IB. I found it promising and decided to join SIB.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

Yes, the course was very interesting and much more technical compared to what I learned at my University. It developed my skills for the role of an investment banker.

What was the best part of training at SIB?

The best part was the faculty and their expertise in the field. They always went an extra mile to help students understand the concepts. It was the faculty which made the subject interesting.

YES, absolutely I have taken the right decision by joining SIB. I am now working with a profile I always wanted to work for. How did you decide to join SIB's full time investment banking course?

Before joining SIB, I did not even know what investment banking meant. Just like any other naïve person, investment banking for me was another subset of finance/research. But it was the team at SIB who explained to me what investment banking actually means and what investment bankers actually do. As I was looking for a job prior to joining SIB, I decided to train myself in financial modelling and valuations before actually appearing for any interviews. I had heard of SIB from a friend and decide to visit them to get a better sense of what they offer.  At the time I was also considering joining another institute, but  I was very much impressed with SIB and its team and decided to go for it.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

Absolutely, Undoubtedly, Undisputedly YES!!! I am now a part of this highly reputed multinational firm in their investment banking team and this has been possible entirely due to SIB. This is way more than what a certificate can do for me!

Varun Thakkar

What did you do before you joined SIB?

Before I joined SIB, I completed my Bachelors in Management Studies (BMS) from R.A. Podar College, Mumbai.

How did you decide to join SIB's full time investment banking course?

I have always had a keen interest in finance and had done a few short courses in the field. One of these courses was on mergers and acquisitions and I instantly knew that I wanted a career in Investment Banking. A friend recommended SIB to me and I found the course content really interesting. The fact that I as a fresher had the opportunity of breaking into mainstream investment banking was very appealing. It was exactly what I was looking for and so I enrolled myself for the full time batch.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

Yes, even though I was scared and hesitant at first. But now that I’m working in a boutique investment bank with the profile that I’ve  always wanted to work in, I think this decision was the best ever. The training provided at SIB is awesome and the faculty is brilliant. I’m really happy I took up this course.

Abishek Surendran

What did you do before you joined SIB?

I am an Electronics Engineering graduate with 4.5 yrs of IT experience.  I am also a co-founder of an IT Security firm which has been operational for 2 yrs now.

How did you decide to join SIB's full time investment banking course?

I was introduced to the field of Investment Banking during my entrepreneurship days. I was thinking of pursuing a  MBA to switch over from IT to IB. In spite of receiving admissions into some top universities in the world, the recent economic crisis made me think twice. I was looking for short term courses in financial modeling and valuation  to get a toehold in Investment Banking and gain experience in the industry. I found the SIB website while surfing the net.  On speaking further with the faculty and the alumni of SIB, I was convinced that SIB could give me a break into investment banking.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

As a career changer, I was always going to find breaking into investment banking difficult even with an MBA. After pursuing the course at SIB, I had a grasp of the basics of finance and the confidence to excel as an Investment Banking analyst/associate. I am very grateful to SIB for providing me the opportunity to interview with a highly coveted boutique investment bank. To me, SIB has been the fastest means to realize my dream of being an investment banker.

Tanvi Patki

What did you do before you joined SIB?

I completed my B.Com from Podar College and a  MBA from IES Management College before joining SIB.

How did you decide to join SIB's full time investment banking course?

After completing my MBA the placements offered at college did not interest me much. The profiles offered were mostly sales oriented and not hard core finance ones. Therefore, I decided to pursue the full time IB course at SIB as I thought it would give me better career opportunities.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

Yes. I definitely feel I took the right decision by joining SIB as the learning was great and the window of opportunities it provided was awesome. I'm truly happy I did the course.

Nitesh Punjabi

What did you do before you joined SIB?

I had just completed my BBA (Bachelors in Business Administration) from Symbiosis. I was a fresh graduate, out of college and was looking for a good start to my career.

How did you decide to join SIB's full time investment banking course?

I am very ambitious and I knew I wanted a job in the financial sector; I wanted to be an investment banker. I knew that being an investment banker will be a great profile to start with and will give me global exposure. But I also knew that I needed extra help to get where I wanted to, because it was impossible to even get an interview in the bulge bracket firms only after my BBA. Once I came across SIB, I knew that this was the only way I could have the best start to my career.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

The training at SIB backed my strengths, confidence and ambition. It pushed me in the right direction and gave me my dream shot of being an investment banker. I am a banker with a bulge bracket bank and I made a great start to my career. I work at par with CA’s and MBA’s. The training I received at SIB helped me to achieve this.

Varun Jain

What did you do before you joined SIB?

I had just finished my undergraduate degree at HR College and like everyone else was evaluating different careers and opportunities. I weighed them all out and decided that I wanted to be in Private Equity (PE). After receiving grim replies from most PE firms, I decided to do what most PE firms suggested - get banking experience as a precursor to a PE career. After spending a couple of months in London meeting with banking and PE professionals, I decided that working with a bulge bracket investment bank was my best bet.

How did you decide to join SIB's full time investment banking course?

I was keen on getting into investment banking full time and serious about doing so. The so-called 'banking' offers being offered to graduates in India are more of an accountancy or finance related nature as opposed to mainstream investment banking. SIB offered the chance to break into what I always wanted to: an opportunity to interview with at least a couple of bulge bracket banks and other premier institutions and the knowledge and skill set to thrive and make a mark once inside the firm.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

Undoubtedly. With the top finance firms in India hiring from only a few hand picked schools, it seemed almost impossible to break into this circle. But with the program at SIB this was made possible. The level of instruction combined with the hands on approach were top notch. Moreover the background and experience of the team was also a major motivating factor in convincing me to take up the program. Everything I gained over the 3 months at SIB, both personally and professionally gave me a substantial leg-up over the competition from day one.

Sarfraz Sohani

What did you do before you joined SIB?

I did my bachelors in management (BMS) from Bhavan’s College, Mumbai University and was a fresher before joining SIB

How did you decide to join SIB's full time investment banking course?

The field of investment banking always interested me since  college and I  was eventually planning to pursue it after my MBA. After completing my graduation, I came across SIB which I thought would help me achieve my career goals. So I did some research on SIB, clarified my doubts and took at the time what seemed to be a small amount of risk. But now when I look back it clearly paid off.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

I am working in a bulge bracket US Investment Bank doing the same investment banking work that is done by MBAs, and this has been possible only because of the course at SIB.

Deepak Vyas

What did you do before you joined SIB?

I did a B.Tech in Metallurgy from IIT, Mumbai and worked as a software engineer with Verizon Communication in Hyderabad.

How did you decide to join SIB's full time investment banking course?

I wanted to start my career in mainstream finance but after working in IT  there was no  way to switch career path and enter investment banking, other than pursuing a MBA or CFA which is time consuming. After discussing with SIB's faculty and visiting their campus, I felt that SIB was providing both – an excellent training program along with good placement prospects.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

Before SIB I had almost no knowledge and experience of finance.  But in a short span of ten weeks, SIB provided me with good investment banking(M&A) training, interviews with various banks and a swift transition from IT to investment banking which was not possible by any other means. And now when I look back, I strongly feel that I made a right decision by joining SIB.

Danesh Chothia

What did you do before you joined SIB?

I completed my B.Com from HR College in Mumbai. After that, I worked as a risk analyst in one of the leading MNC banks in India. My profile required me to make credit appraisals and track portfolio companies to see if they justified their credit lines.

How did you decide to join SIB's full time investment banking course?

My primary motivation was to make a career shift from credit to Investment Banking. I was initially a little skeptical. But after meeting the promoters/faculty and getting a better understanding of their respective backgrounds, I got the confidence to take the plunge.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

Surely. In a matter of only ten weeks, SIB gave me the opportunity to switch from credit to mainstream investment banking. SIB's curriculum covered the fundamentals of investment banking well. It was a good background to have before being thrown in at the deep end of the pool.

Himanshu Kaushik

What did you do before you joined SIB?

Post completion of my MBA in finance from Symbiosis, I chose to work with Infosys for close to two years in the business intelligence division as a consultant.

How did you decide to join SIB's full time investment banking course?

I wanted to break into the investment banking domain but breaking in was proving to be a difficult job without the right kind of experience. That is where SIB kicked in and by being a part of the inaugural batch at SIB, I took the plunge into investment banking.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

Taking the first step always seems the most difficult and so was leaving a well set career, but thankfully it worked out well with the help of SIB. I am working in the field I wanted to and the course prepared me for most of the work being done by me currently.

Suruchi Sharma

What did you do before you joined SIB?

Before joining SIB, I worked with HSBC Bank as a Wealth Manager. My profile involved selling a kitty financial products to customers. Due to increasing competition among private banks in the country, the wealth management arm of most of the banks has become too revenue-oriented rather  than being solution-oriented. My work did not involve a lot of analysis. I  completed a MBA from ITM, Navi Mumbai and a B.Com from SRCC, New Delhi

How did you decide to join SIB's full time investment banking course?

I always had a passion for financial analysis. Having completed my MBA specializing in Finance, I wanted a break into the investment banking world where there is a lot of analysis and strategy planning involved. I heard about such an institute which focuses on providing the precise knowledge and the analytical skills required for investment banking. After contacting and discussing the course with the SIB team, I decided to join SIB.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

Yes, because I got placed with a boutique investment bank in Delhi. My job involves a lot of analysis and brain-storming which I thoroughly enjoy. What would have taken years for me to understand and achieve in the investment banking arena, took me just 10 weeks through SIB.

Vikas Jain

What did you do before you joined SIB?

I have done my MBA (Marketing) from University Of Wales, Cardiff and have worked with Tesco Plc as a Business Support Executive.

How did you decide to join SIB's full time equity research course?

My first target was to switch my career from marketing to finance. Secondly, I wanted entry level analyst jobs in mainstream finance. After looking at the module of the equity research course offered by SIB, I felt that this will definitely help me to switch my career path. Getting entry into the field of equity research is difficult without a MBA in finance/CA or CFA.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

Yes. I definitely took the right decision by joining SIB as I learnt a lot in this 9 week course and secured a job with a local brokerage firm.

Aditya Shekhawat

What did you do before you joined SIB?

Before joining SIB, I completed my B.COM and CFA (International) Level 2. In addition to this, I worked with a local brokerage house as a research associate.

How did you decide to join SIB's full time equity research course?

My reasons of joining SIB were very simple. First, I wanted to have an in-depth knowledge of topics like financial modeling, trade comparables and report writing etc which one does not get to learn during other  courses like CFA. And secondly, I was very impressed with the faculty of the institute which comprised individuals from Lehman, UBS and Morgan Stanley.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

Yes, because not only did this course help me to secure an equity research job with  a local brokerage house,  it added a practical dimension to the theoretical knowledge which I gained through my experiences earlier.

Vinayagam Gunasekaran

What did you do before you joined SIB?

I completed my Bachelor's in Business administration from State University of New York, Buffalo. I have also worked in the financial service industry in the U.S. as an associate analyst and financial advisor for a little over 2 years.

How did you decide to join SIB's full time equity research course?

My work in the financial service industry was more focused on the retail side. I was looking for a career in the Corporate/Institutional side of finance. Even though I had done my concentration in Finance in my undergraduation, I had no clue about the working of an equity research/investment banking division.  So, I did my research and found SIB to match the needs of what I was looking for.

Do you feel you took the right decision by joining SIB?

Definitely! I feel that I took the right decision by joining SIB as the learning was great and I secured an entry into the investment banking world. Thank you very much SIB
